Perspectives:Asia lecture series
Launched in 2005 by the Griffith Asia Institute and the Queensland Art Gallery’s Australian Centre of Asia Pacific Art, the Perspectives:Asia series is a program of public seminars designed to explore issues of contemporary culture, politics and society in our region, while also fostering public discussion of Australia’s relations with Asia.
Since its inception, the seminar series has hosted a diverse range of remarkable speakers on various topics that look at Australia’s relationship with its neighbours.
Covering all disciplines, the series has used topics from sport, cooking, fashion, art and politics to launch debate about the interrelationships of countries in the region, and promote cultural understanding and awareness.
Asia Lecture
The Griffith University Asia Lecture is a significant event for the university. Its aims are to promote contemporary thought leadership in the Asia Pacific, inform debate on current regional developments, and engage the community on issues of significance for Australia in the region. The inaugural Lecture in 2016 was delivered by former Australian Prime Minister, The Honourable John Howard OM AC, and in 2017 by Mr Peter Varghese AO. In 2018, we were delighted to host former Indonesian Foreign Minister, Dr Marty Natalegawa. In 2019 we were honoured that Dame Meg Taylor could bring a blue pacific voice to the Griffith Asia Lecture.
