Dr Tapan Sarker facilitated a training program for participants from the National University of Laos and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment titled Enhancing growth and institutional development through increasing expertise in water governance in Lao People's Democratic Republic.
Funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade through the Australian Awards Fellowship, the program aims to develop good practices in the transfer of knowledge to professionals from Laos in the area of water governance.
Global network orchestration
The value chains underlying most goods and services are becoming increasingly disagregated and globally dispersed. So how can a firm coordinate and safeguard exchanges in a complex global value chain when it has limited formal authority?
Professor Sara McGaughey, along with Professor Randi Lunnan (Norwegian School of Management), examines this question through a qualitative case study of a European ship designer and builder as they engage in new business models involving outsourcing and offshoring to countries such as China, Dubai and Turkey.
Global governance revisited
The Centre for Global Cooperation Research (Duisburg, Germany) recently appointed Dr Larry Crump as a Senior Fellow based on a proposal: "Global Governance Revisited via Three Levels of Analysis: Global, Regional and Bilateral". The global focus of this fellowship was on the G20, the regional focus was on policy coordination, and the bilateral focus was on developing a theoretical framework that can help explain closure (the end game) in bilateral free trade negotiations.
