Scholarships for high-achieving real estate and property development major students

This scholarship will provide an undergraduate student who has achieved outstanding results in the field of real estate property development within the Griffith Business School with access to $5,000 worth of Property Council membership, events, professional development courses and industry publications.

Scholarship details

To be eligible, you must:

  • be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or permanent humanitarian visa holder
  • be enrolled full-time at Griffith University
  • be enrolled in the Bachelor of Business, majoring in real estate and property development
  • be entering the second or third (final) year of the degree
  • have a GPA of 5.0 or above.

The successful recipient will be announced at an event on the Gold Coast on 8 September 2023, applicants may be required to attend.

This is a perpetual scholarship funded by the Property Council of Australia, awarded in accordance with these guidelines to a student who has fulfilled the selection criteria.

This scholarship will provide an undergraduate student who has achieved outstanding results in the field of real estate property development within the Griffith Business School, access to $5,000 worth of Property Council membership, events, professional development courses and industry publications.

Payment

Payments are made up to six weeks after the census date, subject to maintaining ongoing terms and conditions.

To remain eligible for the scholarship, recipients will be required to:

  • remain full-time enrolled at Griffith University in the Bachelor of Business, majoring in real estate and property development
  • maintain a minimum GPA of 5.0
  • The recipient will be invited to attend the Property Council’s Gold Coast Luncheon – event date 8 September 2023.

The above conditions are verified each trimester at census date. If a scholarship recipient fails to successfully meet these conditions, it is at the discretion of the GBS Scholarship Selection Committee to withhold the trimester instalment or to terminate the scholarship.

Applications, including the referee report and any supporting documentation, must be completed and submitted by the closing date.

The scholarship may be extended, suspended, or revoked in accordance with the terms and conditions.

The Property Council of Australia will retain the right to withdraw the scholarship.

The Selection Panel holds the right to not award the scholarship in any given year, if in their opinion there is no worthy candidate.

Griffith University reserves the right to withdraw an advertised scholarship at any time.

Property Council of Australia Queensland Division Executive Director, Jen Williams said "the Award was established to pay tribute to the contribution Peter Trathen made to the property industry and Gold Coast business community." Peter moved to the Coast in 1993 from his native South-Africa, working for Jupiters to develop the Brisbane Casino.

In 2000, he took the lead role in the development of the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre. Peter Trathen was a strong advocate of education and continuing professional development. He actively encouraged young people to seek and develop careers in the property industry. Peter lost his private battle with the most virulent strain of skin cancer, melanoma, on 12 July 2010.

The Scholarship may be extended, suspended or revoked in accordance with the Regulations and Conditions. The Property Council of Australia will retain the right to withdraw the Scholarship. The Selection Panel holds the right to not award the Scholarship in any given year if in their opinion there is no worthy candidate.
