Prepare for an endlessly rewarding career

Occupational therapy is an exciting profession that opens up numerous opportunities for graduates. Many will work in health and social care settings but an increasing number will create new roles to address some of the major issues impacting on Australia and other parts of the world.

Studying at Griffith you'll develop the relevant, practical skills needed to deliver life-changing outcomes for clients. You'll learn how help people to increase independence and enhance development, to carry out the activities they struggle with due to illness, injury or other disadvantages.

Our program will prepare you for a career across the diverse areas of practice. It covers occupational therapy theory and practice, occupational science and other sciences such as psychology, sociology and anatomy, providing you with the tools and theoretical understanding to work as an occupational therapist in any setting.

You'll undertake a number of placements including an opportunity to make your mark in an important area.

A hallmark of this program is its truly contemporary view of occupational therapy, in keeping with current international trends.

As part of the first intake of Bachelor of Occupational Therapy students in 2014, Tessa Neethling already has aspirations for her future career. `I love studying this degree and have decided that I am pretty keen on a career in paediatric occupational therapy,' she says. 'Occupational therapy gives real meaning to people's lives and being a very people-focused person, I feel that I have certainly chosen the right thing. It's easy to see how all the theory and practical components fit together to secure a future job within the profession.'

You will find employment opportunities in a variety of workplaces locally, nationally and overseas, including:

As an occupational therapist you may find yourself working closely with medical practitioners, nurses, physiotherapists, speech pathologists, social workers, psychologists, vocational counsellors and occupational health and safety officers.
