Study paramedicine at Griffith

Preparing professionals to work in the emergency environment

Australia's newest paramedicine degree is designed in close collaboration with industry experts, building on their own induction programs to produce paramedicine graduates of choice.

It's a 2.5 year program, offered only in accelerated mode at our Gold Coast campus. You'll graduate in time for mid-year entry to any Australian Ambulance Service (avoiding the congested entry point in January each year). Delivered by Griffith's School of Medicine, this degree will also leave you well placed to apply for the graduate entry medical degree, Doctor of Medicine.

You'll be equipped with vital clinical decision-making, problem-solving and critical thinking skills, and learn about human body systems, paramedic practice, emergency treatment of disease and response to trauma.

You'll also develop strong practical skills through clinical simulation delivered through Griffith's extensive range of simulation facilities, and will include clinical placements in a variety of settings.

You'll be given the foundation and confidence to develop into a well-rounded professional, ready for the diverse challenges of life as a paramedic.

Simulated training puts the pressure on student paramedics.

Our world-class facilities and research provide an edge

The $150 million Griffith Health Centre on our Gold Coast campus operates over the road from the 750-bed Gold Coast University Hospital and a new 250-bed private hospital. It's a unique environment in which to gain unrivalled clinical experiences. Our industry-leading research in many areas of medical science informs our degree content, helping to produce forward-thinking graduates ready to make their mark in a healthcare career.

Career outcomes

Enhanced employability in a fast growing field

Demand for paramedics in South-East Queensland and Northern New South Wales currently exceeds supply and is expected to do so in the foreseeable future. Our ageing population and the general population growth in these regions, plus projected expanded scope-of- practice for paramedics, will continue to drive the need for increased ambulance services. You'll be able to apply for positions as a graduate-level paramedic in Australian and internationally. Other opportunities could also include:

  • Military
  • Offshore oil rigs
  • Mines
  • Other commercial paramedic opportunities
